Buccinator
The Pointer Plus is an easy to use trigger point (TP) locator which

The Buccinator is a facial muscle.
Anatomical Attachments:
- Origin: Attaches to the alveolar process of the maxilla and the mandible of the opposing molar, as well as the pterygo-mandibular raphe.
- Insertion: Attaches to the orbicularis oris and the fibers from the deep portion of the lips.
Action: This muscle of mastication pulls the corner of the mouth laterally, compresses the cheek, and holds food between the teeth during eating.
Nerve Supply: Deep buccal branches of the Facial nerve (Cranial nerve VII).
Vascular supply: Buccal branch of the maxillary artery and facial artery.

- Primary: The pain refers deep within the cheek.

Trigger Point Signs and Symptoms: Trouble chewing and swallowing, pain and aching in the cheek and jaw region.
Trigger Point Activating and Perpetuating Factors: Improper fit of dentures or dental work.
Differential Diagnosis: Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), Facial
Neuralgia, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Oral Cancer, Tetanus, Tension headache, Systemic infections or inflammation, Nutritional inadequacy, Metabolic imbalance, Toxicity, Side effects of medication.
