Mylohyoid

Pointer Plus

The Pointer Plus is an easy to use trigger point (TP) locator which incorporates a push button stimulation feature to immediately treat Trigger point pain.

The Mylohyoid is an anterior muscle of the neck.

Anatomical Attachments:

  • Origin: Attaches to the medial surface of the mandible from the symphysis to the last molar (mylohyoid line).
  • Insertion: Attaches to the median raphe from the chin to the hyoid bone.

Action: Elevates the hyoid bone, the tongue and the floor of the mouth during swallowing. Upon hyoid bone fixation, the mandible is depressed.

Nerve Supply: Mylohyoid branch of the inferior alveolar nerve (Trigeminal nerve V).

Vascular supply: Sublingual branch of the lingual artery, submental branch of the facial artery and the mylohyoid branch of the inferior alveolar artery.

Travell and Simons Trigger Point Pain Referral: The pain refers to the tongue.
