Muscle Test for Internal and External Oblique Abdominis

Pointer Plus

Pointer Plus

The Pointer Plus is an easy to use trigger point (TP) locator which incorporates a push button stimulation feature to immediately treat Trigger point pain.

Individual Position: The individual is seated on the table with their legs extended and their arms crossed over their chest.

Practitioner Position:The practitioner is standing beside the table with their forearm placed across the individualís thighs and their cephalad hand placed on the individualís back to assist in reaching a 45 degree placement of their trunk for the test. (Note: If the individual is capable of holding the position against gravity, then the test can be performed. This test should not be performed on individuals suspected of having low back pathology).

Description of Muscle Test:The individual is requested to rotate their shoulders and the practitioner would then place their cephalad hand on the individualís shoulder and request the individual to return to the upright position while maintaining rotation against the practitionerís mild resistance.
